What is the DOOR?
The DOOR is an acronym for Days Of Our Remembrance. The DOOR is a holiday that occurs each year on April 1st. That day's official name is "The Day Of Our Remembrance". It is a day dedicated to returning the members of the human family to wholeness, wellness, and well-being, in prevailing over the disruptions, challenges, and frustrations of the past year.
The DOOR is also a process. It is a period of time from the first day of spring through April 1st where anyone choosing to celebrate this holiday reflects on one's past, gives thanks for what one has and those who've helped along the way, atones and makes amends for ones wrongs, and actively plans to progress in his or her life in the new year to come.
This process has three periods.
Unlocking the Door - This is a period when one reflects on the challenges, mistakes, short-comings, failings, wrongs, as well as the successes, joy, good times, accomplishments, and successes of the past year(s). One takes an honest assessment of how life has been lived up-to now as a means of determining the actions that are good for self and others, as well as discovering areas that need improvement.
Opening the Door - This is the period where one actively seeks to give thanks (both to self and others) for the good that one has experienced. He or she also seeks to atone and make amends for wrong and wrong-doing.
IMPORTANT NOTE: As this holiday is about love, positivity, and progress, one is not to attempt to dredge up pain and sorrow by approaching someone who would best be left alone. Sometimes, we cannot replace what we've taken away or undo what we've done. We can, however, forgive ourselves and seek to 'pay it forward' by helping others. In making the world a better place, the victimized will see a glimmer of hope for the future - that others will not be affected in the same way. Often, we want to be forgiven, without paying the price of redemption. Do what it takes to help you forgive yourself. In certain cases, that may take a life-time, but you will leave this plane of existence in the peace of knowing that you did everything in your power to give in return for what you may have taken away.
Passing Through the Door - This is the "Day of Our Remembrance". This is the day we celebrate and look forward to a new year and new opportunities to live better lives and do greater work here on Earth.
Who can celebrate this holiday?
Anyone and everyone can celebrate this holiday. This holiday is universal. It embraces the spirit of self development and service to humanity found in all religions and philosophies.
How does one celebrate "Passing Through the Door" (April 1st)?
One celebrates "Passing through the Door" by expressing thanks for one's new-found sense of hope and well-being , either alone in meditation and reflection or in fellowship with others. A person might decide that "passing through the door" is a deeply spiritual and personal thing one year, while deciding to fellowship and share one's testimonies of growth the following year.
Fellowship with family and community is encouraged. Sharing what one has learned in "unlocking", "opening", and "passing through the door" is encouraged. This can be done at a dinner event, in a talk circle, at a church or temple testimonial service, or by stopping the music at a party and allowing those celebrating to toast to their own personal process of unlocking, opening, or passing through the door. The Day of Our Remembrance is a celebration of personal growth. A family or group might choose to celebrate one distinguished individual, who would be the first to pass through the door by speaking on his or her process. After that, others might share their experience - taking less time to do so.
One can celebrate this day in any way he or she sees fit.
Are any gifts to be given on any of the days of this holiday celebration?
Yes! Gifts are given during the period called "Opening the Door". One literally visits those he or she wishes to honor, thank, or make amends and offers gifts, tokens of appreciation, flowers, wine, etc.
Is there any significance to the choice of April 1st as the "Day of Our Remembrance"?
Yes. There are several reasons April 1st was chosen. First, with the exception of April Fools Day, there are no holidays celebrated in the month of April. This would make the event stand-out on the calendar. Further, there is little value to be found in lies, tricks, and deceit, so it is our hope that the Day of Our Remembrance offers a welcomed option to the celebration of "April Fool's Day".
Next, the current New Year's Eve celebration occurs in ten seconds - 11:59:50PM on December 31st to 12:00:00AM on January 1st. One notices upon examination that ten seconds in the dark of night, on one of the coldest evenings of the year - is hardly a reasonable or adequate way of celebrating the new year. To those who choose to celebrate, the DOOR celebration coincides with the arrival of Spring in the northern hemisphere. It could be considered a functional New Year's Celebration. We prepare for the new year with the "unlocking" and "opening" and we celebrate by "passing through the door" into the New Year.
Further, everything of value in nature occurs over a period of time. With the exception of destruction or violent death, very little happens in an instant. Life is a process of unfolding. The Day(s) of Our Remembrance (March 20th - April 1st) are in agreement with the natural cycle of life - that there is a process of unfolding with everything on our planet.
As there is a process to everything in nature, Should not there also be a process of reflection and planning that goes into ushering-in the new year? Shouldn't that time correspond with nature and the period when warmth and perennial growth returns to our planet? Would it be more advantageous to us if each new year was indicative of humanity's progressing to another level?
Who's idea is this anyway?
While it is important to know who created a thing, it is more important to us that you either accept or reject this concept on the basis of its merit. The value of the idea should not be weighed on whether the creator is an important person or not. In this case, we give all the glory, honor, and praise to God. The Creators, J.W.P and M.B.M. will one day ultimately have to step forward to answer questions with regard to the inception of this idea. Still, the value of the idea outweighs the personalities associated with its envisioning. The founders of this holiday will ultimately pass from this plane of existence. It is there hope that the idea remains.
Why are you accepting donations?
We want to spread the word about the Day of Our Remembrance to the ends of the Earth.
Will there be any back-door or back end recruitment to any religious belief system.
No. While both founders of this holiday believe in a GOD who created all that is, neither is or plans to be affiliated with any one religious group or organization. Further, neither is affiliated with any cult or sect, known or unknown. Other than signing up for a newsletter, being offered an opportunity to donate, follow the site, and attend any one of our Time Consortiums, you will not be asked to join anything or leave any group.
What is the Time Consortium?
The Time Consortium is a group that meets to discuss time and how it can best be used to support the development of human beings. When we adhere to calendars, clocks, and schedules, we often don't realize that humans created these standards of governance. The Time Consortium aims to produce a report on whether the current standards are adequate with respect to insuring man's continued progress.
Under what authority was this holiday dedicated?
As members of the human family of the planet Earth, we have the authority to create that which is good and beneficial for our fellow man.
